a College-Prep Health, Life & Bio Science Course for Adult Learners

DAYTIME Class - Mon/Tue/Wed
Mon, Tue, Wed | 11:45-2:00 (lecture)
AND
Mon/Wed  9:45-11:30 (college-prep study lab)
Thur 11:45-2:00pm (optional study lab)
 
EVENING Class - Mon/Wed
Mon & Wed 6:15-8:45 (lecture) + Homework requiring computer access
 
 
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to vocabulary and concepts in college-level science including biology and a foundational study in chemistry anatomy and physiology. Students will also learn to study using educational technology tools/resources commonly used in college courses.
 
Objectives: Students will be able to...
  • Identify three fields of study in science: Health Science, Life Science, and Biotechnology
  • Read, discuss and answer questions from a college-level Anatomy & Physiology in writing.
  • Explain why chemistry is important when studying life and health science, and differentiate general chemical terminology
  • Increase your vocabulary and recognition of concepts about cells, tissue, muscles, bones
  • Identify the eleven body systems and their function
  • Use online and offline resources to learn science and health related terminology
  • Access learning materials through Moodle

 

Pre-Requisites

  • Pass Basic Computer Skills & 8th Grade Reading level
  • Attend ALL classroom lectures plus mandatory study labs, and field trips to the community college
  • Be able to complete homework assignments outside of class time, and turn in by the required due date
  • Recommend students complete one term of College Prep Writing & Technology before joining this class

How To Enroll -

Complete and submit the enrollment application AND

 

Current and/or former ESL, ABE. or ASE students

  • Bring the referral form from your current Advanced ESL and/or ABE Class to one of the CTE Assessment & Placement Dates
  • Attend the CTE Assessment & Placement meeting and take a basic computer skills assessment
  • Take your enrollment form to the front office and register for the course

 

Current CTE students

  • Bring proof of completion of Basic Computers & Keyboarding OR Proof of enrollment in any other CTE course to  one of  the following CTE Assessment & Placement Dates
  • Attend the CTE Assessment & Placement meeting and take the reading placement test (if you have not already done so)
  • Take your enrollment form to the front office and register for the course

 

All NEW Students

  • Attend the CTE Assessment & Placement meeting and take the reading placement and the basic computer skills test
  • Take your enrollment form to the front office and register for the course
